LG C5 vs Samsung S90F: which 65-inch OLED should you buy?

Two 65-inch OLEDs: different HDR formats, daylight behavior, owner experiences and reasons to pay more.

The buying answer

LG C5 or Samsung S90F?

Choose the exact US LG C5 when Dolby Vision and consistent OLED blacks in an ordinary bright room matter most. Choose the US 65-inch Samsung S90F QD-OLED when vivid HDR color and direct-glare handling suit your setup. The labs do not agree on which wins every SDR brightness test, and neither is a universal winner. Compare the actual verified US seller prices before paying a premium.

Which is the better buy at the listed price?

At similar delivered prices, let HDR format, room lighting and color preference decide. If one is meaningfully cheaper and still meets your needs, the saving is a valid reason to choose it.

The real lab numbers—and the limits of comparing them

Measured on the tested 65-inch units

Tom's Guide's original 65-inch LG C5 review reports 1,165 nits HDR and 335 nits SDR. Its separate 65-inch Samsung S90F review reports 1,155 nits HDR and 520 nits SDR. All are 10% window figures from those articles, not full-screen sunlight or day-to-day average picture brightness.

Tom's Guide's later S90F comparison table includes slightly different C5 snapshot values (1,179 HDR / 344 SDR). RTINGS also judges relative SDR performance differently in its own testing. Do not average numbers across laboratories or assume every picture mode, software version or test window tells the same story.

Owner experience from attributable US retail reviews

In Best Buy's September 13, 2026 exact-size snapshots, LG C5 had 1,543 owner ratings and Samsung S90F had 905; both averaged 4.8 out of 5 at that time. LG owners particularly praised its picture but sometimes criticized remote/menu ease, while Samsung owners praised vivid color and brightness. Counts and averages are dated, not live; neither proves a reliability rate.

For Dolby Vision film libraries or Xbox titles that use it, the C5 has an actual compatibility edge. For QD-OLED HDR color and direct glare, consider the 65-inch S90F. In either case, the most important final tie-breaker is a verified exact-model offer, real room lighting and return terms.

LG C5 vs Samsung S90F buying questions

Is LG C5 or Samsung S90F better for a bright room?

Choose based on the light that reaches the screen. The C5’s daytime brightness and resistance to raised blacks help with ambient room light. The S90F’s reflection treatment helps with direct glare. If direct sunlight is the main problem, compare the bright-room alternatives before buying either.

Which one should I buy for PS5 or Xbox?

Both offer the key modern gaming connections. Dolby Vision support gives the LG a relevant distinction for compatible Xbox content; that is not a blanket PS5 advantage. Count your HDMI devices and check the game-mode findings in each full review.

Does every Samsung S90F use the same OLED panel?

No. This page identifies QN65S90FAFXZA, the US 65-inch QD-OLED model. Other sizes, regions and model suffixes can use WOLED. Do not buy from a generic S90F listing without confirming its full code.

Should I pay more for the LG or the Samsung?

Treat Dolby Vision, your lighting and color preference as reasons to pay more only if you will use the difference. If both fit your setup, compare the current seller, delivered price and return terms. A historical score tie cannot establish today’s best deal.

Do independent measurements agree on which TV is brighter?

Not in every test. RTINGS favors the C5 for SDR brightness in its own conditions; Tom's Guide lists 335 nits SDR for the 65-inch C5 and 520 for the 65-inch S90F in a 10% window. Their test protocols, modes and review snapshots differ. Neither reading is a guarantee of whole-screen brightness in your room.

What do 65-inch owners report after purchase?

Matched Best Buy owner samples recorded on September 13, 2026 broadly praise both pictures. LG C5 comments also mention remote and menu friction; Samsung S90F owners particularly appreciate picture and brightness. These are experiences from an attributable retailer review pool, not controlled long-term reliability tests.
