Golf Simulator Projectors 2026: 4K, 1080p and Room Fit
The best projector for your golf simulator is the one that fills the impact screen from a safe lens position. Compare 4K and 1080p, accurate throw geometry, real brightness conditions and mounting risks before selecting any seller.
Start with usable impact-screen width
For a 16:9 picture the screen width is about 87.2 inches at 100 inches diagonal. Golf enclosures also use 16:10, 4:3 or even square images. That changes the real width and therefore the optical throw requirement. Never calculate installation from diagonal alone when the impact screen is not 16:9.
The optical throw ratio is projector-lens distance divided by projected image width. For example, a 10-foot-wide image and a verified 0.69–0.83 short-throw lens range imply about 6.9–8.3 feet from lens to image plane, before offset, zoom tolerance, head clearance and safety. Verify lens position and screen-edge fill with the exact installation manual, not just the marketing badge.
What the BenQ AK700ST specification actually establishes
BenQ's US documentation specifies AK700ST, a 4K UHD-output laser golf projector with 4,000 ANSI lumens, an optical ratio of 0.69–0.83, and screen-fill options for 16:9, 16:10, 4:3 and 1:1. These are manufacturer specifications, not an independent brightness/contrast test or a current new-price offer. Review the exact BenQ US data ↗.
BenQ lists 33.4ms input lag for 4K/60Hz on this model, versus 8.4ms at 1080p/240Hz. These are distinct modes; don't claim that the lower figure applies to a typical 4K golf simulator signal. Confirm what the PC software, graphics card and projector actually negotiate.
BenQ's official setup guidance ↗ describes special golf picture and fill modes. Those functions can still involve geometry adjustments, crop or resolution consequences and must be checked for your screen.
4K versus 1080p: which projector fits your enclosure?

| Model and resolution | Lens distance | The important trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| BenQ AK700ST · 4K UHD output | 6.9–8.3 ft · 0.69–0.83 ratio | Short-throw 4K detail and 4,000 ANSI lumens in BenQ's specifications. Input lag is 33.4 ms at 4K/60; the faster 8.4 ms figure belongs to 1080p/240 and must not describe a 4K golf PC. Official US data ↗ |
| BenQ AH700ST · Full HD 1080p | 6.9–8.3 ft · 0.69–0.83 ratio | BenQ lists 4,000 ANSI lumens, 16.7 ms at 1080p/120 and 33.4 ms at 1080p/60. Consider it when 1080p is sufficient; it does not deliver the AK700ST's 4K detail. Official US data ↗ |
| XGIMI HORIZON 20 Pro · XR14A | 12–15 ft · 1.2–1.5 ratio | Longer-throw 4K home-cinema research, not a verified protected golf enclosure installation. Its different lens geometry may interfere with golfers or depth. Check sourced XR14A tests → |
Every number above is lens distance = actual image width × quoted optical ratio, before zoom, cabinet position, physical offset, screen gain, mount, safety clearance, cable run and image-size limits. It is not an installation approval or a current offer.
Three hazards a comparison table misses
- Swing and ball safety: mount the unit, cables and lens outside the club swing and likely ball/ricochet paths; use a suitable enclosure and seek professional advice for uncertain arrangements.
- Shadow and obstruction: short throw can reduce required depth, but a projector aimed from behind the golfer can create shadows if the user stands in the beam.
- Impact screen brightness: claimed ANSI lumens do not directly predict on-screen light because fabric gain, enclosure light, image size and projector modes all matter.
Carefully check ventilation, ceiling mounting and the manufacturer-recommended image geometry. A model may be optically suitable and still mechanically unsafe.
Choose the room setup before you buy
- Measure visible image width and aspect ratio. A 16:10, 4:3 or square impact screen cannot be dimensioned from the existing 16:9 diagonal calculator. Use the actual visible width, not enclosure framing.
- Protect the golfer and equipment. Mark the entire club-swing zone, ball and ricochet path, launch monitor position, ventilation and mount. Check for shadows when the golfer crosses the light beam. A theoretical throw fit is not a safe install.
- Use matching input modes. The game PC, simulator application, aspect-ratio fill and projector must support the resolution and refresh mode in a quoted lag test. Geometry corrections can crop or rescale detail.
- Count complete installation costs. Include impact-screen material, enclosure, mount, protective housing where appropriate, cabling, controlling room light, US seller terms and returns. Compare prices only after a verified exact-model offer exists.

What Piqelo will compare in future golf profiles
Beyond raw features, a serious profile needs exact model and US seller identity, independent sharpness/brightness/latency evidence where available, 16:10 or square-screen geometry, noise, user reliability and real new-condition value. We won't publish a score on a single product brochure.
The projector room tool currently assumes 16:9: for non-widescreen golf screens, use the width × throw ratio formula above instead. Return to BenQ AK700ST research for the primary-source link and open evidence gaps.

Would either XGIMI fit a golf enclosure?
For a 10-foot-wide projected image, the HORIZON 20 Pro’s verified 1.2–1.5 optical ratio needs roughly 12–15 feet of lens distance. That is a different mounting problem from the BenQ AK700ST’s 6.9–8.3-foot short-throw estimate. Brightness alone cannot resolve swing clearance, shadows or screen fill.
The AURA 2 is a cabinet-based UST home-cinema design. This research has not established a protected golf installation for it. Choose the enclosure and mounting geometry first; neither XGIMI is presented here as a verified golf recommendation.
